Success Story: Turning Adversity into Adventure
Army Sergeant JD “Jack” Williams, a triple amputee from Kentucky, endured the profound loss of both legs and an arm due to an IED explosion. Yet, as Cathy from Work Vessels for Vets shared, “Truly, he is the happiest person I have spoken with. Every time we spoke, he was just returning from an outdoor adventure—hunting bear or antelope.”
Jack applied for an adapted blacksmith forge and knife-making equipment to fuel his healing and purpose. In response, WVFV awarded him the tools he needed not only for his own craft but also to support Mohawk Outdoors, the nonprofit he co-founded, which takes fellow wounded veterans on outdoor adventures.
