RED WINE

Zinfandel is a traditional Italian varietal (known as Primitivo there) that was brought to California by immigrants in the 19th century.  These grapes do well in warm, sunny climates where they can fully ripen.  Zinfandel grapes produce a high level of sugar when ripened, which translates into a dry, full-bodied, high alcohol wine.  These bombastic, fruit-forward wines can be simple and fun or rich and complex.
